6 Addiction
At SIX we believe that a 90 meetings in 90 days commitment is the best and most effective treatment for someone suffering from addiction that will get you on the road to recovery
Sporting Chance supports individuals and organisations across professional sport to address emotional welfare and addictive disorders.
In September 2000, as a result of his own experiences with alcoholism, Adams founded the Sporting Chance Clinic. A charity aimed at providing treatment, counselling, education and gives confidential help & support for current & former professional sportspeople experiencing difficulties with addictive disorders, alcohol, gambling & substance misuse.

The Forward Trust is a charity that empowers people to break the cycle of addiction or crime to move forward with their lives. We believe that anyone is capable of lasting change. Our services have supported thousands of people to make changes to create better lives with jobs, family, friends and a sense of community.
Around 2 million people (1 in 30 adults) in the UK are struggling with addiction to drugs or alcohol. Amongst marginalised groups, such as homeless people, the proportion can be as high as 1 in 3 and amongst prisoners, it is higher than 1 in 2 – more than 50% of all prisoners have a history of drug or alcohol problems.
What we do:

Forward works directly with people who have problems with addiction and offending. Our services span five main areas of work: drug and alcohol recovery; improving health and wellbeing; employment; housing; and increasing connections with friends and family. We work both in prisons and the community.
Our success:

Our interventions work. Independent research shows that The Forward Trust’s intensive rehabilitation treatment programme for substance misuse leads to a 20% reduction in the numbers of released prisoners who re-offend, and a 65% reduction in overall number of offences committed.
For every drug user we engage in our treatment programmes, an estimated £5,380 is saved in healthcare costs (Source: The Forward Trust Social Impact Report 2018).

How you can help

We rely on the support of people who are passionate about helping others to turn their lives around. Visit www.forwardtrust.org.uk/support-our-work to find out how you can get involved.
The More Than My Past campaign aims to challenge this, change attitudes and inspire those who are still trapped in cycles of addiction or crime.

It is an ambitious online campaign that aims to raise awareness of the potential for ex-offenders and people in recovery to turn their lives around. The aim is to change attitudes across the board – from policy makers to businesses and the general public.

I hope this is of interest and that you will consider supporting the campaign on social media and maybe posting your own message of support using the hashtag #MoreThanMyPast.
Working with schools, local authorities and other children's settings, we provide personalised support to children and families, tackling the underlying barriers to a successful education to improve the life chances of children.

Nacoa (The National Association for Children of Alcoholics) is a registered charity (No. 1009143), founded in 1990 to address the needs of children growing up in families where one or both parents suffer from alcoholism or a similar addictive problem. This includes children of all ages, many of whose problems only become apparent in adulthood.
Nacoa has four broad aims:

-
To offer information, advice and support to children of alcohol-dependent parents
-
To reach professionals who work with them
-
To raise their profile in the public consciousness
-
To promote research into the problems they face and the prevention of alcoholism developing in this vulnerable group
COMBATING CANCER, INJURY AND DISFIGUREMENT IN THE MOST SOCIALLY IMPORTANT PART OF OUR BODIES – THE FACE AND MOUTH
The face is the only part of our body we cannot hide. It conveys our emotions and innermost feelings. We often judge each other on the basis of facial appearance, making assumptions on a whole range of issues.
People suffer the consequences of facial diseases, injuries and disfigurement every day. In the United Kingdom 6,500 people develop oral cancer every year. Around 125,000 young people sustain serious facial injuries and 15,000 people receive treatment for facial disfigurement.
Despite the severity of these issues, this remains a much neglected research area leaving thousands of those unfortunate enough to be affected with little hope for the future. Not enough is known about facial disease, injury and deformity, their psychological and emotional impact and, critically, which treatments are most effective. Saving Faces – The Facial Surgery Research Foundation is the only charity in the UK solely dedicated to the worldwide reduction of facial injuries and diseases. We are taking the lead in education and research to improve the physical and psychological treatment of all victims of oral cancer and other facial diseases.
